Review of Samsung UE40ES6715 40 inch LED TV

It is time for a review of my new Samsung UE40ES6715 40 Inch LED TV. I have always been a big fan of Samsung TV’s and of cause my first ever LED TV should also be from Samsung. After doing some research online I ended up with a 40 inch Samsung UE40ES6715 (Nordic model). It might look like a silver TV on the picture above, but in fact it is a white TV and so are the remote.

First time Installation

Samsung UE40ES6715 backside

First time installations of a Digital TV can sometimes be a big pain taking hours to complete. However on this device it was very smooth. The menus were easy and fast guiding me through configuring date, time and network options. When my network was configured and the TV was able to reach the Internet it prompted me to update to the newest firmware for the TV. After the firmware update and after choosing my signal type and country I was presented with a screen with all the national cable provides. When I choose my provider the frequencies network-id and symbol-rate was already configured and the channels were automatically detected.

How to edit channel numbers in Samsung UE40ES6715

Changing the channel numbers on this TV was one of the only things that were not very simple to figure out on this device. It was not really a surprise for me. This is one thing that Samsung has always been very pour making easy. I tried to find a solution in the included paper manual but I was pretty fast going online to figure it out. You will have to look under SmartHub and Channels.

Conclusions

Overall I am very happy with my new TV. However I would like to highlight a few things below.

Pros

  • The guides for first time installation are working great.
  • The design of this TV are very smooth.
  • The connections on the backside of the TV are placed nice and are easy accessable
  • The remote are working great and switching channels are working fast.
  • You can controll the TV with your Smartphone (Android and iPhone).

Cons

  • Very tricky to figure out how to change channel numbers.
  • When the TV is in stand-by mode there is a big red LED lighting up the living room.

I hope you liked this little review. I would like if you would drop me a comment below and tell me what TV you are having and why?

Congrats on your new acquisition. I was thinking of buying a new TV too and found something interesting from LG. There are a few really popular LG models this year.

    1. Hi Marty
LG is for sure also making some very nice TV’s.

  3. I did see this in the mall the other day and yes it is intriguing.

As for me, I have a Panasonic Viera. It manages not to test my lack of tech knowledge (I like simple!) and the installation and all is pretty easy; so no hassles there! Not changing anytime soon ! 🙂

    1. Hi Haja
As long as you are happy with your TV there is no reason to change anything right?

      1. Yup! If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

  4. Rashmi Sinha

Very nice review about a great TV! I wish i could afford it, maybe i will set it as next goal 🙂

    1. Thank you Rashmi
Buying a new TV can be expensive, also because we now that it is only a matter of time before something new and better are showing up.

  5. Wow, this Samsung TV looks really stunning! And I love it white! I love Samsung TVs because I think their designs are the best.

    1. Hi Jasmine
I love the design of most Samsung TV too. Of cause I want the specs to be great, but for me the design is important too.

  6. John

Nice TV, it’s from Samsung too.

My daughter got almost similar model, but in black, however, I don’t really like the remote control’s shape in terms of ergonomic form.

Couldn’t really see how ergonomic the remote in this post, but I guess it’s the same shape.

Overall, Samsung did a good job with their LED technologies TV.

    John.

    1. Hi John
If you click on the picture of the remote you can see it in a big picture, maybe it is easier to see on that one. Otherwise try and do an image search on Google. I am sure that you can find a lot of images of the remote there.

      1. Hey,

Thanks for the prompt reply, I did what you suggested, and saw the bigger picture.

The remote is indeed better than ours.

  7. Nick

Have you played games on this TV? Do you have input lag?
As for me, I bought a 42″ LG LED TV last month. It’s not a very expensive one and loaded with features but picture quality is excellent

    1. Hi Nick
No I have not tried that, but I have tried connecting my PlayStation to the TV and it looks awesome 🙂

  8. ayesha

What an awesome job done by samsung.. Now we are going to control our TV with our smartphone SUPERB!!.. Great piece of info!!

  9. Late

Nice looking TV but after reading a review where the 32-inch model of this series (32ES6715) was tested, I’m not so convinced.

Picture with SD material was found soft (HD was good). Contrast was excellent when watching directly from front. But already at 30 degrees angle the colors fainted significantly (black looked grey and so on) and picture became distorted. (32ES6715 finished 3rd out of four TVs tested)

Have you noticed similar problems with your 40-inch model?

    1. I have not really noticed those things you are mentioning, but maybe the 40-inch model is better than the 32-inch when it comes to picture quality. One thing I did notice is that the factory settings of the picture was very bad. I got a calibration DVD at the store where I bought the TV and using that helped a lot to give a better picture for sure. With the factory settings every things look radioactive 😉
What TV was the 32ES6715 model compared with?

  10. Late

Other TVs in the test were LG 32LM660T, Panasonic TX-L32ET5Y, (Samsung) and Sony KDL-32HX755. The TVs finished in points in this order. Samsung got 8,4 vs LG’s 9,1 (or was it 9,0).
Reviews are naturally subjective but somehow I would have expected more from Samsung. Anyhow, the 40-inch model is still quite a strong contender for my next TV.

Samsung led TV have a wide range of products and also giving the awesome looking to the users. Are you try it?

  12. Alex Brennt

I recently bougt this TV and i am more than satisfied. Picture is bright, colors are quite natural. and the great feature is built in browser. So i guess this model deserves to be one of the best.

    1. I am pretty happy with mine too Alex.

  13. Hi Thomas! A very nice review of a very nice TV! I’ve seen it a couple of days ago in a store and it was simply superb, both the design and the image quality. It will be my next purchase, for sure 😀

  14. I got a 47 inch D6000 right before the 2012 series came out. Its a great TV the picture is awesome. I still love full array LEDs better, but most companies have stopped making them because of cost.
Make sure you get the PLEX app for it, its great for streaming media from your computer.

    1. Hi Ben
Thanks for the tip. I have not yet tried out the Plex App.

  17. Giorgos

    Hi,

I bought the 6900 model yesterday and I can’t seem to find how to change the channel numbers (Digital aerial channels). They start from 800 up to 839 or something. bUt I want to re-arrange them in my own order and own numbers e.g. 1, 2, 3 etc

    How did you do it?

    many thanks

    Giorgos

    1. Hi Giorgos
I have now idea of why Samsung want to hide this important feature for us, but you will need to enter the SmartHub -> Channels and then click on the Tools button. Then you should be able to edit the channel numbers.

It is not at all logical that it is under SmartHub, but that is where I found the function to do this.
Let me know if it works on your model too?

  18. Hi thomas, yep it worked too. many thanks G

    1. That is great to hear. I have made a little update to this post after your question. I seems like something has been falling out of this post about just that issue.

  19. Great article though, hope you would continue posting related articles about samsung tv as I am honestly an enthusiast to knowing this as well… 🙂

  20. Jong

No doubt at all this a master piece! 🙂

Most TV maker makes beautiful TV but they always forgot to design a beautiful remote. I hate my Samsung TV remote, such a big remote and yet I clicking the same thing everyday.

    FULLHD is simply awesome!l

    1. Hi Jong
I don’t use my TV remote much because I also have a Samsung HD recorder where the TV signal is going through. That is the one I use when I am changing channels. FullHD is great. A good BlueRay movie looks awesome on a good FullHD TV 🙂

  21. Greattttttttttttttttttt… Just Wanna get one.. I wish i could… Really Awesome

  22. Harry

I got a LED samsung 32″ – an older model. Although mine doesn’t have browser, but it’s still awesome: Full HD, HDMI for PS3, sound great, … I love it so much

    1. Hi Harry
A Samsung LED TV, a HDMI cable and a PS3 is just a great combination 🙂

  23. Muriel Sullivan

Nice review. It certainly has great design and excellent hi-tech features that would make connecting to the web much easier. Thanks for the advice.

  24. Fletcher Anderson

Thomas, thanks for the review. I’ve been thinking what type of TV to buy for some time, now and Samsung’s UE40ES6715 is certainly worth considering.

  25. Lee

I have been looking at different tv for a while cant make my mind up was going to get a cheap end Sony and then I read about something like the Samsung and it swings me the other way maybe I should just go in to a shop pick one I like and have done with it.

    Great review lee

    1. Hi Lee
It can be difficult to decide what TV to buy these days. I always search online for reviews when I find on that I like to figure out what other people says about it.

  26. Frank

Hi nice Review, I just bought the UE40ES6715 myself, I only have one problem, I can’t get the Channel information/program information to show when I switch channels, do you know have?

  27. Jason Harrison

    Hey Thomas,
this is a great post and it really made me consider getting this TV. It seems to be a great television. The 3 HDMI inputs is probably the best reason to get this TV. Thanks for this review,
    Jason Harrison

  28. Nice article Thomas but I would like to tell that rather than buying this tv what if we make our old tv smarter. Ya it is possible by devices like google chromecast, Apple tv etc. You can surf internet do almost everything which you can do with smart tv’s. Also it will be much more cheaper. I have Samsung TV not this one one which has only USB support and I am using Chromecast to make my tv smart.

    1. Google Chromecast is for sure a great device even for older TV. In my case I went from a 32″ Samsung TV to this 40″ TV. Chromecast can do a lot, but not make your old TV 8″ larger 😉
